For many years, researchers struggled to give kids just a few more months of life. While many kids now survive, the search goes on for cures for many childhood cancers.
But even for kids who survive, the battle is not over. Because of the treatments they had as kids, by the time they’re 45, more than 95% of survivors will have a chronic health problem and 80% will have severe or life-threatening conditions.
So in addition to finding cures, a lot of research is focused on preventing the lifelong damage that results from surgeries, radiation and chemotherapies given while young bodies and brains are just developing.
Even during treatment, kids face all kinds of side effects, some very uncomfortable, others life-threatening. That’s why St. Baldrick’s also funds research to improve supportive care for patients.
St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events began as a challenge between businessmen and have grown from one event in 2000 to over 1,300 events in 2012, raising critical funds for childhood cancer research. Events take place in pubs, restaurants, schools, churches, parks, malls, military bases, firehouses and any other place you can imagine.
Adopt A Rescued Friend - Houston's Mission is to help as many forgotten, broken and neglected dogs find a loving home as humanly possible. Willingly volunteering our time, blood, sweat and tears to make sure they are rehabilitated and given a chance at happiness. No breed is turned away. No case is too severe. Lone Survivor Foundation restores, empowers, and renews hope for wounded service members, veterans and their families through health, wellness, and therapeutic support.
Post-Combat Education
Did you know the estimated number of combat service members, veterans who suffer from signature wounds such as invisible injuries of combat trauma, traumatic brain injury (or both) is 1 in 3? These signature wounds include painful symptoms such as flashbacks, avoidance, isolation, hyper-arousal reactions including anger outbursts. Lone Survivors Foundation’s focus is to educate service members, veterans and their family members on the warning signs, symptoms and characteristics of these injuries to better prepare our men and women when returning home.

The bar partnered with the Stevens family to host a benefit and help raise money to support himself, his wife and their two children during this time of hardship.
